About UsDr. Phyllis KuehnDr. Phyllis Kuehn's doctoral research focused on the validity and reliability of teacher licensure tests. She has taught program evaluation at the master's and doctoral levels, and also teaches statistics and research methods courses. Her research area is in the effects of low academic language skills on student achievement. Recent work was completed with two doctoral students on the effects of academic language proficiency on science course achievement for community college students and medical school course achievement for students enrolled in medical courses through the University of California, Davis. Dr. Kuehn has designed and implemented evaluations for federal programs such as Title VII, and for state programs such as teen pregnancy prevention grants. She has also received three grants from FIPSE(Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education) to support her academic language work. Dr. Kuehn is director of the Doctoral Research Center, a support office for doctoral students in the JDPEL program. She is also a faculty member in the Department of Educational Research and Administration.
